Acurus ACT-3
These can be had used for 500-700 bucks and sound VERY good. I am running this prepro with an adcom amp and spica TC-50's and Infinity Kappa SSW-210 Sub. The Soundstage is everpresent and deep. Extremely revealing sound with an incredible image. Very happy with this purchase.

I had the ROTEL RTC-965 and upgraded to the ACURUS ACT-3. This was possibly the best money that I have ever spent. I can't believe the difference, it's so musical, and movies are noticably better(even my wife can tell).

I purchased this unit after borrowing a demo for a week. Through the ACT-3, stereo (especially through its digital input), Dolby Digital, DTS, and even Dolby Pro Logic all have an audiophile quality to them that I can't quite put into words. What I can say, however, is that now I can never go back to mass market equipment.

I bought the act 3 about a year and a half ago... great preamp... all the features that i could ever use and then some....since ive owned this unit there is only one thing i wish i could change, and that is what mondial design calls auto detecting a signal....or lack there of ....i often have to press the select button twice on the remote in order for the preamp to recognize the signal. if a dolby digital dvd starts playing and the preamp is not in dd mode i will miss the dd/dts/thx intro because im fumbling with the damn remote. once that is set everything sounds great. one the best sounding systems ive heard ..
