I live in Toronto, ON, Canada, and purchased this unit for an incredible price, $699.00. I read the manual thoroughly and after and hour of pondering around with the remote, I got the unit up and running. It is a flawless receiver with all the goodies you would want. Power is clean all the way through. I'm using it with a Technics tape deck and CD-player, and a Marantz turntable, with absolute clarity coming from these units. As soon as I hooked it up everything was playing.

I bought this model as a floor demo as well from The Good Guys. I brought it home and did not get any sound from it. It's being repaired right now, but when I go on the kenwood homepage and read there bulletin boards, every comment about his receiver talks about the no sound problem.

I bought a floor demo of this thing for $499. Got it home, and couldn't get any sound out of it. Also couldn't get the remote to work, either. While I was at work, a friend came over and talked to Kenwood's support group. They got the remote to work, but the receiver itself was shot. I've read similar comments about the VR-2090. We took this one back and are waiting for the store refund to come through. I'll probably be buying Yamaha, since I already have a simple ProLogic processor of theirs and it is a beautiful performer. The Kenwood looks great, but there doesn't seem to be much behind the facade.

Have watched several movies (recommend train scene in "Switchback") in Dolby Digital and have been extremely impressed. Amp has plenty of power and is crystal clear. Remote seems complex at first but becomes very easy to operate (though many buttons have to be pushed to get where you want to go). There are only a few DTS receivers on the market and DTS is ready to take off.

A friend of mine bought one along with a Panasonic DVD player. I have sat and played with it a long time on 2 separate occasions. The Dolby Digital processing seems to decode as an average receiver (I prefer either Denon, Yamaha, or any other manufacturer who uses LucasFilm Re-EQ or an equivalent). I have yet to here DTS. The amps seem a little cloudy in sound and unfortunately do not have pre outs for the mains. The best part is the LCD remote is cool as hell! Overall considering price with DTS and DD it is a good little unit, but week amps and average processing I can only give it a 7.
