Pioneer VSX-D906S
I bought the reciever ($1000), and brought it to my favorite high end audio store days later, from where I was considering purchasing seperate Classe amps and Classe reciever (approx. $3000.00-4000.00).

The guys there were speechless. We tried different combinations on Pro-Ac Response 2 speakers (Pioneer pre-out to Classe 100 Watt amp, Classe by itself, Pioneer by itself).

I left happy and amazed craddling my Pioneer in its box, and the salesguys were looking at each other saying "How could that be?". They could not honestly look me in the eyes and give me any valid reasons why I should have bought the Classe equipment instead. The sound was great, the remote is great. To this day, the conversation comes up from time to time when I visit their store.

I now have it set up in my home theater a la AC-3, and I'm just as happy as when I got it. Honestly.

One frustration I do have is that the S-Video signal is independant of the RCA video signal. It would be useful if there was a built in converter, for backing up DVD to VHS tapes...

Just paid $840 CAD ($550 USD) including tax, in Edmonton, Canada. The remote is worth $100. Great sound and nice features. Look at those copper screws at the back, Wow!!!

Pioneer VSX-D906S
This is a really great Reciever, I was considering to purchase a Sony or yamaha amp. I used to have a yamaha pro-logic amp and was considering one of the yamaha amps but the lack of RF inputs for my LD collection turned me off and the sony amps just sounded harsh and lacked the powerfull clean sound that the pioneer amp had. I'm lucky in that the model I got was the THX version (Australian version) and It's amazing how much of an improvement THX makes to the Dolby Digital software. Sound effects and music became so much more clearer and had that full body sound which makes it so realistic, If you get a DD Reciever then you must get a Recever with THX or your just wasting your time. The unit has plenty of features, a great learning remote which operates anything under the sun, S-video inputs, you can connect your LD, DVD together with no problems (some recievers seem to only have DVD inputs how crap!) and enough power to shatter the windows in your house and get some friendly visits from the police. Overall it's a superb Receiver my only gripe is that it doesn't have a 6 channel input for future upgrades but since DD is standard for DVD and HDTV I don't think it is that much of an issue (personally THX + DD sounds alot better than DTS).
Well Done Pioneer!!!!

Dave!!!

Pioneer VSX-D906S
I think this is an incredible receiver. Right now, you can get this receiver as low as $899. That is cheap!! Here is a list of all the correct features on this receiver.
1 optical digital input
2 coaxial input
1 RF input-for Dolby Digital laserdiscs
4 audio, and 5 A/V inputs!!
4 S video inputs
100watts/channel
0.09% THD
Heads-up remote
GUI(on screen graphical user interface)

Let's just say that this is a dream to home theater systems. It has power and inputs for every possible A/V source available today. This receiver has some great sound. Especially in Dolby Digital surround mode. Great low bass, and pin-point surround accuracy. You have to try this receiver. I have several Pioneer products, and every one of them is GREAT!! Even after several hours of use, this receiver is not hot. It has a Direct Energy MOS amplification system. Every feature about this receiver is great. Go try it.

Pioneer VSX-D906S
The 906 S is excellent value, it is basically the exact same unit as the more expensive VSX-07X Elite without the THX and fancy elite package. If I bought my 07X all over again it would be a 906 S
