Yeah, Sorry but I've got to agree. Great sound and presence from an amp which costs nothing can't be bad now, can it? Mine's hooked up to some little Mission 73's, and it still sounds great. Blows my old Sony ProLogic away.

Overall Unit Performance
- Satisfactory compared to the unit price($800)

Audio Quality
- AC-3 or DTS : Excellent
- Dolby Surround : Good
- Stereo, Digital Effect : Not so Good

I couldn't detect any distortion/clipping with the volume increase

Almost every features were moderate, but
there were some Inconvinient Features for me.
- It has only a few A/V terminals than I needed
- Its buttons in system and remo are difficult to use

Great unit overall. Does everything well, for a very reasonable price (got mine for $899). S-video output would be nice, as well as additional digital ins for the future, but this is a great unit that should be very usable for many years.

1. Sound. Five stars. The only reciever I auditioned that is listenable on music. This reciever nails the midrange on voices and dialogue. Smooth, sweet
top end and nice, articulated bass. Have yet to beat on it with DD sources, but so far, all I could ask for.

2. Ergonomics. Four and a half stars. Home theater magazine gave this reciever poor marks for ergonomics. Ignore them. This reciever is a pleasure to
use. It's got the best remote control in the industry, plus just about all important tweaks can be made on the reciever. Everything is very intuitive.
Things just work the way they should. Save a few connection issues, you barely need the instructions at all.

3. Looks. Five stars. IMHO, this reciever just looks like it's in a different class than the Denons and Yamahas of the world. Styling is elegant and
understated, and all knobs and buttons have a solid feel.

4. Value. Off the scale. Well made. Beautiful to look at. Flexible. Great sound. And a remote control normally found on high-end separates. Got mine
for $799.

Complaints: The DSP modes suck big time. And it would be nice if the unit recognized the type of incoming signal (IE, DD, DTS, etc).
Also, the unit runs a little hot. I'd be interested to hear from other owners if this has been a problem inside AV cabinets, racks, etc.

On a side note. Be careful taking advice from Home Theater Magazine. It seems like they don't spend much time with the equipment they review. When
you read a review from SGHT, you know they've gone over that piece with a fine tooth comb for weeks on end. Speaking of which, SGHT just named
the R-945 the best budget piece of gear in any category for the entire year. Enough said. As close to a no-brainer purchase you'll ever find.

Great unit for the money. Sound is very good (DTS is great). Could use a little more power (They say 100, I say more like 70-80.) and maybe one more VCR input. The remote is pretty good too. Runs kinda warm, needs good ventilation.

A nice receiver for the money, especially since the price just came down with the introduction of the MkII. I'm purposely not submitting a rating because I want to post a little (hard-won) advice. I bought the 945 to power my brand-new Legacy Classics -- even though the 945 is not rated into 4 ohms. The salesman who sold me the unit assured me that he had run it into a full (5.1) 4-ohm setup at his home, and had had no problems. However, I ended up frying one of my soft-dome midtweeters within one day of driving the Legacies at reasonable levels. The recording that blew the driver was not even bass-heavy; just very hot in the midrange (an a capella choral recording). Obviously this amp cannot handle high-sensitivity, 4 ohm speakers -- I would recommend following the rating. Don't try to cut corners like I did (now I'm going to drop some extra cash for a high-current power amp).

** Be forwarned about using this amplifier to drive a 4-ohm load! **

On a side note, Legacy is replacing the driver free of charge... Now that's customer service!

I bought this amplifier last August I am happy, this is a great unit for price. But Sherwood say 100w x 5 but I think no more than 70 or 80 W.
