I've used three different types of high end speakers with this amp and it always impresses. The bass is tight and punchy up through higher volume levels.I've had it set up for five channel theatre sound using the separate decoder and the windows shake. It's older now but it's built like a tank and is good value.

I have had this unit for 1.5 years now with a Yamaha external DD decoder. Works great. I just added a stand alone DTS Millennium unit. Great combo with everything all working. The varbiale load/speed cooling fan kicks in when needed and it runs cool (especially compared to my old Sony I used to have). Handles the DTS load well.

Onkyo TX-SV828THX
Excellent system. At the close out bargains, nothing can beat this system. But before you buy make sure what DTS/DD decoder you are going to use with this system. If the decoder you use does not have DB25 output, then it is a nightmare to find a cable that has DB25 on one side and 6 RCA's ont eh other side. Monster makes one and it has to be special ordered through a dealer and takes weeks and is damn expensive at $150.00. Best deal will be to buy a DD/DTS decoder that has DB25 outs.

Onkyo TX-SV828THX
This reciever was seriously hard to find (since its an old model) but i got it for a bargin price
when i did. I absolutley love the power this thing gives out, only two things eek me about it.
It gives 100W x 2 in stereo and when switching to Pro-Logic (90Wx3, 50Wx2) there is an
appreciable loss in power in the front three speakers. Bass goes way down and everything
sounds dull. Granted I don't have a subwoofer yet so it be accounted by that.
The second point is that it doesn't put out an even 90w x 5 in Pro-Logic mode, although none of
the Onkyo range did when this baby came out (not even the 919THX). I could always wire in
a 110 x 5 THX amp if I felt the need to since the upgradibility in this reciver is so good.
Overall I'm happy with it and can't see myself replacing it in the new future. May buy the
Onkyo ED-901 DD processor for it tho.

Onkyo TX-SV828THX
I love this unit especially at the price. There are, however, 2 downfalls:

1) The servo drive on the volume knob, as seems to be with most all Onkyo units, is cheap. My unit volume knob spikes when lowering the volume with the remote.

2) The power is not consistent all around, which. if one wants to run THX "in its ultimate settings" would require an outboard amp for extra power.

Onkyo TX-SV828THX
This receiver is amazing. There are enough inputs for most mortals. The sound Quality is clean and LOUD! My ears certainly distorted before this unit did. Another great thing is that the unit hardly heats up. Ive run it for days at a time and it was barely warm. This unit is great if you want a top quality receiver that is easily upgradeable to DTS or DD(even both). If you can find one grab it. I would like to have the ability to change the crossover settings from the THX setting of 80hz, but I am convinced that it wouldnt sound any better no matter what I set the crossover at. Besides, what more can I ask for in this price range...UNDER $800 for THX, 5.1 ready, more inputs than I can handle, clean sound, enough power to run small countries... Highly recommended.

Onkyo TX-SV828THX
The 828 offers THX certification in a package that continues to prove flexible and upgrade friendly. It's db25 input allows me to upgrade easily to DTS or any other surround system that is based on 6 channels. A full compliment of S-Video connections and built in Composite to S-video converter make this receiver multi format friendly. Highly recomended. Anyone considering the 838 should reconsider and purchase a close-out 828 ($599). Even at the full retail of $1599 when it was new, It was and is a bargain.

Onkyo TX-SV828THX
One of those few THX receivers that offer maximum flexibility and value. It has the high power 24-bit Motorola chips for decoding of Dolby Surround and THX processing. It also has a DB-25 input port for a 6-channel external decoder. The receiver has excellent pre-amp section and can rock a medium size room with no problem. Great buy if you can find one.
