I can't complain much about this unit. I owned one for about a year and a half and the only reason I got rid of it is because I upgraded to another ELITE model with DTS. Great unit because it has a AC-3/RF input built-in, so for those who are holding on to their DD laserdiscs, this unit fits right in. My only complain was that the VSX-05 does not have any S-video inputs/outputs but feature for feature, it's a great unit!

I realy have the Poineer Elete VSX-14 but that's not listed, the 5 is
the closest.
I love my VSX-14 except for the rather lack luster FM Recever section
and lack of Pre-ins.

Sounds great. Much better than older Pioneers. I have had no noise problems.

Pioneer VSX-05

I think this receiver has too much noise (hiss). The DSP significantly adds to the hiss and you can hear his when I play back all my DVD movies during quiet scenes or talking. I can hear the hiss in my regular seating position. I think it is too loud and not appropriate for a receiver of this cost.
