Pioneer VSX-07TX
This is a most awesome receiver. Just lost the one I recently purchased in divorce and you can bet I'll replace it with exactly the same thing. Home theater was astounding. With both AC-3 DVD & LD, the experience was exceptional. The THX added superb imaging, especially to LD's that were just Surround sound. A terrific all-around audio & video receiver with enough inputs and outputs to satisfy everyone. Especially me, as this was the only receiver that could handle all that I had to hook-up to it. For the money, this is by far the very best to be had. And that would be without the THX certification. With it, it's no contest. Highly Highly recommended.

I am rating it a 9, as receivers go, because I don't believe sound from a receiver can get too much better. Lots of beef, but very smooth. Some limitations as to the flexibility of this receiver, in doing additional hookups, adding other processors, etc. After I ran the THX calibration, and used the RS db meter in the process, I had to tweak the bass down a bit in straight stereo mode. Remote is a bit funky, although I like the looks of it, and it worked for me in the one button command mode, just fine.
Switching is very clean, no clunks, thumps, clicks, or video flashes. Picked it up a local dealer's clearance sale for $800. It's a class act, and a very good example of how you can lay back and let the on-board micro-processors do all the work for you. All you do is listen, and adjust the level until the sound level meter reads 75dbc...the OSD for setting up the remote are a bit sucky for this price range. Can't find more criticism than that!

Sweet sounding on music, with plenty of "slammage" for movies.
Surround set up is pretty easy, with an intuitive menu system.
THX processing really helps make this receiver listenable on
movies, without dulling the high end. Best bang for the buck
for a THX receiver.

Cons: 1) My unit sends a audible "pop" to the subwoofer channel, when
inputs or processing on the amp is changed. After several months of
trying to get a straight answer, the Pioneer factory replied that they
feel this problem is due to a delay in the muting circuit in the
microprocessor, and is a flaw in the design. However, for me, this
"flaw" is more than balanced by the great performance of the reciever.

Pioneer VSX-07TX
The perfect receiver for home theater, music without getting into multiple components are mega dollars for the high end stuff. Sound quality is excellent. Thinks I like: Your settings for each mode are automatically memorized, auto 5.1 setting, seperate A+B output, proper speaker terminals at the back for ALL the speakers. Lots of inputs, cooling fan, onscreen programming. Things I don't like. In 5.1 if your front speakers are large, then the sub-out is bypassed (get around this by selecting small) Remote is kind of hokey, instructions like common sense, lack of knobs anywhere (all push buttons.....)

Other then that a great unit.

Sounds really good. Doesn't have pre-ins or DTS compatibility, though. The AC-3 sounds great. There are only about 5 DSP modes. It's pretty easy to setup, the on-screen setups are fairly good. The remote is pretty easy to configure, and is partially lit.

After a considerable amount of reading and auditioning, I finally decided on the Pioneer 07TX as the best value available for 100 watts per channel AV receivers. I consider the Denon AVR-3600 as its closest competition, but the Pioneer is the better buy. It was a tough choice given that I already owned two other components by Denon (a CD player and cassette deck). I am totally satisfied with the performance and features. The THX audio setting is really phenomenal. The remote is excellent. I especially like the fact that the speakers automatically mute when headphones are inserted.

Pioneer VSX-07TX
This is a great sounding unit in both stereo and suround.
And I really like the stereo direct function that bypasses tone controlls and AD,DA converters.
Powerfull amp section that is clean and dynamic.
Only complaints are 1. in bass management with mains set to large,
sub pre out is bypassed in stereo mode and fed to mains.
In suround sub pre out is on reguardless unless you set sub to no.
2.You can't switch audio sourse independently of video sourse.
ie.watch sat while listening to cd.
last pioneer I could and miss this feature.
But all in all this reciever is worth every penny spent 949.99 delievered.

Pioneer VSX-07TX
This is by far the best value on the market. It sounds great and is THX certified! It even has decent AM/FM reception. The only drawback is DTS compatibility, but who knows where that is going considering there is no DTS software!

There is no distortion at listenable voulume. Another plus is that there are few confusing buttons on the front panel and the remote is easy enough for my wife to use.
This is by far the best reciever I have ever owned!
