I have had my receiver for a little over two years and it was great then I got the protector message, checked the internal fuses, all fine. I had my previous sony receiver for 10 years and it still works like a champ at my brother's house, however, I won't be buying Sony again!!!

I have the STR-DE835. It is horrible. It overheats in a matter of minutes. The letters on the remote are impossible to read. Now, after about 1 1/2 years, it is going in the trash where it belongs. The "Protector" kicks in once the system is turned on, which makes the prodcut unusable.

Okay it just happened to me it was working okay for 2 years Those awful 22222's
huh. So what have people find out about this protector issue? I would really like to know. I am in Puerto Rico and if I have to fix it is going to be hard.
Theres no Circuit City or BestBuy in this Beautiful place plus I forgot my manual back in Massachussetts. Can anyone email me back at marcecruz71@yahoo.com
I'd appreciate it.

Excellent power output, Alot of good functions, Optical input is a must, far more reliable than 835 & 935 and better looking, but lacking '1' function; DTS.

Bought mine almost two years ago. It seemed to perform flawlessly, but yesterday it craped out. After turning it on, about 5 seconds later I got "PROTECTOR" flashing in the display. Disconnecting all cables, leaving it dosconnected from power did nothing to correct the problem. I haven't really used the usint that much and never really blasted it either. Something just gave out. Sony seems to have this streak of unforseen equipment failures, in audio, video, computers, seems like almost everything Sony is a possible time bomb...too bad. I'm taking my unit back to repairs...I wonder how much it's going to cost me now.

I gave this unit a 9 because it performs flawlessly! True it is not the best but for the money this little bird flies with the best of them. I have mine hooked up to Acoustic Research 308HO's for the front and 216PS's for the rear and of course AR C225PS for the center. It does take time to set up but when it is all said and done i can't ever say a bad word about it. Plenty of power, fantastic features, awsome remote, and digital performance you will really admire. If anybody says that this amp is shy or lazy they need to stand up because i can hear them talking but i cant see there lips moving. Great job SONY keep up the good work and i will keep buying!!!!! P.S. does Kenwood realze that there amps are getting uglier?

Sony STR-DE825
This is the best reciever anywhere for the money. I got a smoking deal on it, $300. Performs like a $1000 reciever. Have yet to have a problem with it, though I must admit, it is rather tedius to set up, but I am glad that those settings are present to adjust for different speaker setups. The remote that comes with it is almost worth what I payed for the reciever. Being able to see what song is playing on your cdplayer on the remote is pretty damn cool. I would recomend this unit if you can still find them.

This receiver convinced me to NEVER buy sony again! The flip up remote can come off real easy. My first unit had the sub output humming really bad. The second unit had a channel missing at times(intermittant). the third made me nervous so I went and bought a Yamaha RX V2095. Heaven at last!

Great sound, pumps my Bose 301's very nicely, looking forward to purchasing some Bose 901's and putting my current one's up back. Gave it a 9 because the User's manual doesn't really explain the features all that well.

Excellent receiver, no problems found thus far, have had the receiver for about 8 months now. Could use svideo in/outs though. The remote could be more off brand friendly.
