Televue Genesis (non-SDF)
Oozes quality. Wide field views hard to match. Justifies expensive
eyepieces. Dont let it stay dewed up at all like I did as it rots the
surface of the flourite lens. Had to take it to be zapped with
ionised gas at some cost.

Televue Genesis (non-SDF)
If ever there were a classic telescope, it's got to be the Televue Genesis, one of the first instruments that heralded the global APO revolution we are now experiencing. The F/5 fluorite shows about the same amount of colour as a decent, contemporary ED doublet of the same aperture and focal ratio, but it's contrasty views from 9x to 300x on good nights coupled to its superlative fit and finish make it an absolute joy to use. After near twenty years of use (and sometimes inadvertent abuse), it's still my most used 'scope. If you get a chance to own one, go for it, it'll be definitely worth the effort!

Televue Genesis (non-SDF)
I have one of the earliest versions, the one with the white sliding dew cover. I have also owned a later non SDF genesis, and this one is superior to that, and is also superior to some SDF versions that I have looked thru for sharpness and in focus color correction.

Televue Genesis (non-SDF)
I bought this scope new in 1991 with the Televue systems mount. It was and still is an excellent scope. I enjoy the contrast and the sharp optics, although I envy the slightly better color correction of the Astrophysics and the new Televues.

With a good equitorial mount (the Televue systems mount is no longer available, the rig is handy and easy to use with almost no vibration.

A 32mm wide field eyepiece gives over 4 degree FOV in the F:5. It is very handy to swap eyepieces rather than worry about a viewfinder.

Televue Genesis (non-SDF)
I purchased my Genesis used, in 1999, for $1000. This was in fact the second Genesis I've owned, having sold one to help finance the purchase and rebuilding of a Parks 10" on a massive mount.

But the Parks proved far too massive to be moved easily or even used regularly. The Genesis is, for me, the largest scope that can be easily set up to view the skies on a whim.

It's not quite up to the quality of a Takahashi or an Astrophysics, but even new, the price is reasonable, the quality is superb and the flexibility is untouched.

Color error, yes at over 350x ....
Extremely good low power views with 20 mm Nagler, find the galaxy boils down to looking for the fuzzy spot among hundreds of pinpoint stars!
Can also be used from a reasonably heavy tripod.
I have owned a C8, A homebuilt 8"f8 newton(my own mirror!), a polarex 10cm f15 a lichteknecker 125mm f6 but I keep on returning to this remarkable performer
