>The Meade DS-10 is my first "real" telescope. I bought it used about 2 years ago for $500. The striking quality of the scope is it's weight. I have since added tube rings to allow the tube to rotate (BIG improvement!), a two-inch focuser, a telrad and an 9x60 right-angle finder. The mount was in fair condition and I had to jam a couple of washers into the fixed altitude adjustment to firm it up. However, once I did that, the mount improved incredibly. As far as the optics, once cleaned, they were quite nice. Although I do not have alot to compare it to, I am pleased with the scope. Every night I take it out I get a little better at alignment, tracking, etc. > >Pros are LARGE aperture, solid mount (with modification), and fairly easy collimation. Cons are weight & portability, the AC drive which must be plugged into the wall (!) and the stock focuser and finder. > >Overall, a great piece of equipment for the price
