Slayers Next
For me, Next is the best of the Slayers series. (Could it be because I have a bais towards Xelloss?.......nah...) Seriously though, I haven't seen the first season yet in it's entirety, so I can't really make comparisons between them.

The series Next was the last one actually written in the Slayers novels, I believe, while Try was not. Because of this the characters act more like themselves and the show is actually focused *on* the main character. Try semi-focuses on Filia, which may be a nice change *sometimes* but her attitude can get annoying, and plus (this not Filia-bashing! ^^;; I swear!) her dragon form looks nothing like any of the other dragons you'll see in the rest of Slayers. The entire story takes place in a world of its own, to suddenly throw in another semi-main character that doesn't resemble anything else in that world for the sake of having another season isn't right.

In Next, when (so and so) is kidnapped, Xelloss tells (insert other mazoku name) that he should have more pride and gets (so and so) out of danger. In the end of Try, he goes against his own statement by taking (insert character name) hostage and threatening to kill him or her if he doesn't get his way. (Not that Xelloss ever looked any less than the bishounen he is. ^_~)

Also, the plot seems a bit more solid than in Try. Slayers Next has a few twists and turns that Try lacks.

The humour in Next is about the same as in Try, I think. Just as good. (although the jokes in Try get a little repetative.)

Next is a bit more serious I've heard than the first season or Try, but I still think it's just as good if not better than the others (comparing it to the episodes of the first season that I've seen).

The sound track is wonderful, I think. The music is beautiful and the songs lovely. Megumi Hayashibara sings beautifully and is one of the best (if not *the* best) seiyuu/singers I've heard.

It is a must-see series, even if it doesn't turn out to be your most loved. It's a wonderful anime that takes place in a fantasy world filled with magic, demons (rough translation), dragons, an all powerful God-like figure that is neither good nor bad, and of course enough humor to balance everything out in the end. ^_^ I hope you like Slayer Next (and Slayers in general!) as much as I have.
